Eduction rather than Education

Rather than constantly redifining, over and over again, what we mean by terms that already come with a load of different connotations, my professor Dr. Rainer Bolle coined a new term to contrast the old, as an explicit rejection of common approaches to educating children.

"Education" comes from the Latin "educare" and means to train/ to teach.
"Eduction" comes from the Latin "educere" and means to lead out.

Not only can this inspire an image of a teacher leading a child out of Plato's cave, but we also understand it as leading out a child's inner potentials; instead of trying to shape them according to our will, deciding for them what and how they ought to be, we, as teachers, are to lead out what is already there, helping them become what, in some sense, they always were. ⚘
